a lure
by chiara hardy
‘a lure’ speaks to the act of drawing something closer, whether it’s a fish to the surface or a voice through the static. The antennas that punctuate the skyline, resembling both kites and fishing rods, become pharos of connection, sending and receiving signals that bridge the gap between earth and sky, inner and outer realms. For the uninitiated, these antennas blend into the background, but for those who enter the world of radio, they emerge as powerful symbols of human ingenuity and the desire to connect.
The tension between the analog and the digital, the obsolete and the cutting-edge, is central to Hardy’s work. Radio and fishing, both resistant to obsolescence, become symbols of a return to the tactile, the manual, and the communal. In an age dominated by artificial intelligence and surveillance, these analog modes offer a form of resistance—a way to reclaim agency over our relationships and identities. The amateur radio hobbyist, for instance, becomes a self-appointed first responder in times of crisis, bridging the gap when modern communication systems fail.
A special opening performance by Dani Huda, Tigra Rose, and Tanaman Liar responds to Chiara Hardy’s sculptural installation at 7PM.
